Canoeing
Paddling a canoe can be the best way to enjoy Sri Lanka’s country rivers, jungles, swamps, lagoons and canals. For Jungle River canoeing the best journey is from the Singharaja Forest Reserve to the coastal town of Kalutara. It can be done as a day or an overnight trip and is good for people who have never canoed before but are looking to experience adventure.
Diving & Snorkeling
On-shore reefs and coastal wrecks, multitude of tropical fish and colorful coral reefs makes Sri Lanka an attractive place for world class Scuba-Diving and Snorkeling.. A favorite amongst lovers of adventure sports, snorkeling is best experienced in Bentota, Hikkaduwa and Trincomalee among others.
Surfing
Arugam Bay on the east of the island is regarded by some to be of the top ten surf points in the world. Arugam Bay receives the same Antarctic winter swell's that hit Indonesia in the in the middle of the year. Arugam Bay's is also in close proximity to Lahugala National Park & Yala East National Park. Kite surfing is also fast growing activity in the area.
Hikkaduwa, Midigama and Polhenna Beaches in the south and west are good surfing beaches to explore. Boards and gear are available from local retailers. Advice can be taken from locals about currents on the particular day.
Wind surfing
Hikkaduwa’s Bird Lake and the Bentota Lagoon are offer excellent windsurfing conditions with light wind cruising. Negombo is more suitable for windsurfers of grade 4 and upwards.
Water-Skiing
Waterskiing, banana boating and jet skiing can also be enjoyed in the calm water of the Bentota River and these fun activities offer excitement for all ages and any skill level. Speeds of up to 50 mph are permitted.
